Meet the Sultans
Chris Wiener
Known for his 'grip it and rip it' approach, CW is all muscle. Strong in mind, the only thing bringing CW down is his susceptibility to injury. Always in contention, watch for CW to pop his shoulder out trying to drive a par 5 in one. Won the inaugural SOS Cup, when allowed to play CW is a big threat.
David Owenell
If you want to look at the utter capitulation of a man's swing then look no further. With no two swings the same Dave finds it impossible to be consistent. This coupled with one of the waftier putting strokes you're ever likely to see has Fables constantly struggling to save points. If by some miracle Fables scores enough points to have him in contention coming in, his mental fragility will kick in.
Tom Foley
With youth on his side this young gun should be challenging most weeks. However, how impressionable will he be when the seasoned Sultans dig their claws in. Will his innocence prevail, or will he succumb to the SOS way of life. By the looks of this photo, it’s all over.
Tom Betlehem
This wheeler and dealer's biggest strength is his self-belief. A very happy man when things are going his way, if not, watch out! You are sure to cop a barrage of abuse. If he hasn't told you already, VB hits a long ball, this coupled with a low handicap means one bad mistake and VB is dead.
Jack Divitini
One of the more mentally cooked Sultans, Divis has been known to physically choke himself walking down the 18th. If you partner up with Jack and miss a putt to win, it's best you avoid him on the following hole. If Divis is in contention coming in, thank your lucky stars if you are in his group, because you are in for a show.
Keegan Buck
Being one of the premier furniture designers in Perth, you'd think this man would be able to handle his woods. Unfortunately for Keegan his vocation does not translate to his golf. If Keg does manage to find a few fairways, he certainly has the game to challenge
Thomas Seccull
Born on the sand belt courses of Victoria, Tommy Seccull has the game to match. With his golfing ability coming in a close second to his ability to pull on the dance floor, Tommy often finds himself in a predicament come 3am the morning of a round. To persevere, or get some rest. With the former normally chosen, Tommy's scores do not match his potential.
Tim Swan
If there was a correlation between how much free time you had, and how good your golf game was, Swanny would be a professional. Unfortunately for Tim's SOS Cup aspirations, this time is spent improving his up and down game of a different type. With a renewed focus, there is nothing holding Swanny back from proving the doubters wrong.
Marcus Busby
Died 9th June 2020
RIP
Steve Martin
Known for his long arms, you'd expect to see Steve hit the long ball. This is not the case. Slow and steady is Steve's approach, and it works for him. A solid tee to green game has him in contention to score points on most holes. If Armsy can lay off the piss and has a good day with the flat stick then watch out! Always a sneaky chance.
Tom Nottage
With comparisons to John Daley, Tom plays golf with an utter disregard of tradition and disdain for convention. With a tad over zealous back swing at times, Tom's golf game is primed and ready to make a real mark on the Sultans of Swing. Unfortunately, as with a number of Sultans, he is mentally cooked.
Tim Laird
Tim attacks his golf much like he does his life. He gives it a shot. Never one to take the safe option, Lairdy's imagination in the bushes, and give it a go attitude can produce some remarkable shots. Unfortunately for Tim they can put him further in the shit.
Daniel Johnston
Known for his disciplined lifestyle, the only thing holding Danny Fresh back from winning is his golf game. An inability to hit woods off the tee often leaves his short game with a little too much to do. On his day he has a chance, unfortunately like most Sultans he is mentally brittle.
Adam Kapinkoff
Adam is best known for his natural sporting ability, and this is what his golf game relies on. Unfortunately for Kappa, finesse around the greens has nothing to do with hand eye coordintation. When playing with Kappa, be prepared for a lot of pressure putts, as he is known to offer juicy odds when standing over a 4-footer.
Josh Annear
After years spent studying the links game, Josh has come back home to show the Sultans what he’s got. A master of the biophysics of the game, there aren’t too many things holding this golfer back. If however, the Kookaburra’s are mating or Red-tailed Cockatoos are feeding JA finds it hard to keep his head in the game.
Andrew Watkins
Often mistaken as the Crazy Claremont Walker on the golf course, Trady's posture over the ball is second to none. Looks can be deceiving however, as Trady hits his long irons with laser like efficiency. The sky is the limit with Trady's golf game, if only he'd upgrade his junior clubs to adult size.
Michael Reynolds
With a determined attitude and a few shots in the pocket, Remo is a serious threat. Once plagued by inconsistency, Remo has put the work in and continues to make his mark. Count Remo out at your peril, as he is well known to come out with a few 4 a 4's.
William Johnson
You know Willy? You know... Bob's mate? Don't know Willy? Or Bob for that matter? then let me tell you. Willy's no fuss golf approach is a sight to behold. Steps up, wriggles his ass a little bit, then socks it off the tee. When fresh and sober Willy has the ability to score well, unfortunately his game does not stand up after a few drinks.
Stephen Brooke
What sets Brooksy apart from the rest is his ultra aggressive mind set. When Brooksy is not being aggressive at the pins, he's being aggressive at his clubs. Known to literally punch his clubs and walk off the course with bleeding knuckles, Brooksy has the right mentality for the SOS Cup. With the tee to green game of a professional golfer coupled with the short game of a spud, it's anyone's guess where Brooksy will finish.
Chad Koch
Nothing can slow this pure ball striker down on the golf course, not even etiquette. This self proclaimed helicopter pilot plays golf like he is on a mission, which he is, to finish his round and get to the TAB before the last at Doomben. Kochman's tee to green game stacks up against any Sultan, unfortunately for him his pu(n)tting lets him down. Leave Kochman out of your quaddie at your peril, he's always in with a sniff.
Harry Seward
Consistency is not this golfer’s strong suit. A very capable golfer on his day, but these days are far too rare. A bit of time on the practise green wouldn’t go astray, however this bloke knows where his bread is buttered, and spends his time wisely catering to his girlfriends every beck and call. If and when he does put the time in, this golfer could be anything.
